This is my first post-broken arm Clairity Click-it – especially hand picked (and I mean that quite literally!) for you. I’m still in a sling for at least four more weeks; maybe more. I leave you to enjoy the fruits of my perusing and one-armed pecking.
The Future of Nonprofit Marketing
The Day Your Refrigerator Asks You for a Donation by Joe Waters on Hubspot is a thought provoking piece to get you thinking about where we’re all headed. We’re going to be wired. We’re going to be networked. You’re going to get on board with this – or fall further and further behind. These are exciting (and, I know, often exasperating) times.
Social Media That Resonates
The Fine Art of Social Media Newsjacking. Maximize Social Business blogger Maggie Patterson shares tips to get you started with the fine art of inserting yourself into a news story. It’s a great way to demonstrate to folks how your mission is relevant, and that you are someone to whom they should turn for expertise. (For another take on social nedia “jacking” read Brandjacking: How Social Media is Hammering You/How You can Hammer Back.).
Selfish Content Marketing
Click-It: 3 Major Content Marketing Mistakes to Avoid. A great article from Steam Feed reminding us not to be selfish. Don’t (1) talk only about yourself; (2) overly rely on automation (be human!) or (3) fail to adopt emerging networks that may be “faves” of your particular target audience (e.g., over 70% of Pinterest users are women; want more women donors?).
Pinterest
Click-it: 6 Ways to Use Pinterest to Promote Your Brand. By now I hope you’re onto the complementary trends of using storytelling and images to grab folks attention and get them engaged. Pinterest makes it possible to give a 360-degree view of your brand, values, services and people – so it’s worth checking out if you’ve not done so already. This article from Social Media Examiner may be geared to for-profit businesses, but the principles apply to nonprofits as well. You just need to get creative. Check out two of my boards for examples: (1) Gratitude-Nonprofits Say Thanks and (2) Fundraising Holiday Campaigns.
Mobile Tips
Top 6 Tips for Taking Your Cause Mobile. Thanks to Beth Kanter at Beth’s Blog for bringing us this important guest post by Darian Rodriguez Heyman. This is something nonprofits can no longer afford to back burner. The digital revolution keeps making new work for us – but that’s the way it is. Did you know that over 28% of web traffic now comes from mobile devices and that Kleiner Perkins released a report projecting that mobile web traffic will eclipse desktop traffic this year? Be there, or be square.
Inspiration
Click-it: Dream a New Dream. Another inspiring cartoon and commentary from Hugh MacLeod at Gaping Void. If you’re a professional ‘of a certain age’, make sure you read this one. It will make your day! Now… go out and seize yours.
