Do you ever find yourself spending seemingly endless time worrying about the state of the world? The future of your organization? Family dynamics? Career prospects? Simply what you’re going to eat for lunch? The dog days of summer lead to this type of languid reflection. Sometimes it’s useful. But, it can also be enervating.
The inimitable Seth Godin puts it succinctly:
“Spend enough time inventing possible futures in your head and you won’t have any time to build the future we will all share.
Time to get to work.”
Sometimes it’s best to stop overthinking and start doing. Which is why I’ve collected a bunch of resources for you that will, hopefully, get your brain into action mode! Need new ideas? Skills? Perspectives? They’re all here. Check them out! You’re guaranteed to find something that will shift your thinking.
As always, a big thank you to my sponsor, Bloomerang, for making it possible for me to spend the hours of time hunting, gathering and choosing the eclectic resources I believe will best meet the needs of the diverse range of folks who comprise our critically important social benefit sector.
You’ve got this!
Thank you for doing your vital work, with gratitude,
Claire

Click-it: GoFundMe Enters the DAF Game: What It Means for Everyday Giving. The Chronicle of Philanthropy reports on the new development of “Giving Funds” that may have potential to lift DAF giving by reaching a new audience of folks looking to give – not simply invest in another financial services product. To get more money disbursed quickly, GoFundMe will suggest nonprofits people can support. And they will not charge fees for credit-card processing or administrative fees. Plus, their default will be openness (donors must opt in to anonymity), making it easier for nonprofits to steward these supporters. This could be a real boon to smaller nonprofits who may find DAFs confusing, but who are already using GoFundMe.

Click-it: Is Your Charity ‘Age-aware’? Per fundraising guru Tom Ahern, writing on the Better Fundraising Co. blog, your organization is likely off-track if you’re chasing after younger donors. People age into prime giving years. Click-it: Click-it: Meet the Hidden Majority of Nonprofits: The All-Volunteer Organization [Click to read comprehensive resource]. This is a fascinating piece from Jan Masaoka in Nonprofit Quarterly. I’m embarrassed I didn’t know 69% of nonprofits—nearly seven in 10—have budgets of less than $50,000. That means most of these nonprofits are all-volunteer organizations (AVOs). The article talks about why these organizations are so important, and also how different rules may apply (e.g., for registration, 990 filing, tax-deductibility and the like). She also talks about new frontiers for online AFOs (e.g., subreddits; Facebook groups).

Here are a few artsy pics that tickled my fancy over the past couple of weeks — when I happened to be in Paris!

A lovely street painting I found adorning a Parisian postal drop box.

This giant stuffed bear was spied vending fruit and vegetables on the street! It was a bit drizzly, so he came with his umbrella!

I’m a sucker for bold colors! This is part of the David Hockney retrospective at the Louis Vuitton Foundation exhibit in Bois de Boulogne, Paris, 2025

It wouldn’t be Paris without a colorful window display of macarons.

It also wouldn’t be Paris without a view of a beautiful church interior. There are so many!

Found this droll street art on the side of a door. Made me smile. Every turn brings a surprise!
May your weeks ahead be filled with happy surprises.
