Social Media

Click-It: Where Nonprofits Spend Their Time With Social Media Marketing [New Data]. Lots of thought-provoking data in this article by Steven Shattuck on Hubspot. Check out how your nonprofit compares; then think about how you could do better than the average bear.

Blogging

Click-It: Are You Using This Powerful Social Engagement Tool? Lori Halley on Wild Apricot channels me and Mazarine Treyz in a comprehensive article all about the benefits of nonprofit blogging.

Click-it: The economics behind Copyblogger’s decision to end blog comments. Mark Schaefer provides interesting insight into the business side of blogging, concluding with: “I think the value of blogging for business results from a community dialogue that leads to loyal, emotional connection.” Definitely something to take to heart.

Donor Acquisition

Click-It: Multichannel Acquisition: Growing Your House File from Various Sources . A panoply of online and offline techniques for securing new donors is explored in this article by Angela Struebing for the Integrated Marketing Advisory Board.

I’d recommend you sign up. I signed up for about a dozen blogging fundraiser consultants, but have since canceled most. She’s one of two left standing. I like how she organizes her thoughts about fundraising, and her conversation planning techniques are very familiar to me from my work as a prosecutor. I believe that she was a practicing attorney and who changed careers like I have, and my best guess is that she was a litigator as well. This is a very good article and there are several other blogs (her own) that she links to within it, so even though this is a small article you could spend some time here.
