Stop Settling For Outdated, Obsolete, and “Me-Too” Fundraising & Marketing Advice

I had recently left work as a nonprofit “insider” — after 30 years leading integrated fundraising and marketing teams at five different organizations. I loved, loved, loved the work, but it was time for a change. I had been teaching a while, and folks were encouraging me to take a leap and begin to consult and coach. So… I leapt! And it was all good, except…  I missed being able to share my daily thoughts and current insights with a community of colleagues. One day, I just began to blog. And… I never stopped!

Clairification was voted “Top Fundraising Blog” by readers of Fundraising Success Magazine in 2013.

I was deeply honored and, at the time, felt I’d just won the Miss Congeniality Award at the Miss America Pageant. You see, I’m only 5’1 ¾” (we count every inch of our blessings) and knew I could never be Miss America (and that’s, of course, the only reason).  Growing up, however, I dreamed of how cool it would be to receive the award that all the contestants voted on. That seemed even more special than the award bestowed by the judges. Because it meant “You like me, you really like me.”

You’re a “Top Fundraiser” in my book — just by virtue of getting up every morning, vowing to do your best to make a positive difference, and continuing on your journey to empower donors to also be the change they want to see in the world. You’re the reason I get up in the morning.  Truly. You can ask anyone who’s ever worked with me. They’ll tell you the truth, so I will too.  I never met a book I didn’t highlight, an article I didn’t annotate, or a blog post I didn’t forward and comment on. If I don’t get to share it, it feels like a waste.

As much as I love learning, I’m over the moon when it comes to sharing what I’ve learned.

Because I really want you to know everything I know.  After all, I’m just one person.  If we’re going to change the world, we need all hands on deck.

So here’s the deal.

After publishing Clairification for five years for free, I found I simply couldn’t continue without at least covering my expenses. Comparable education programs, with in-depth, action-oriented content, run up to $800/year. I know many folks can’t afford that, so in December 2016 I began charging a modest $100/year for ‘Clairification School’ — access to ALL of my original articles, monthly action tips, free webinars, generous product discounts, priority access to coaching slots and more. Some folks have told me it’s “ridiculously inexpensive” for what you get — and I hope you’ll think so too! [It’s okay. I can take a little ridicule.]

I really am trying to make my content as close to free as humanly possible (without it costing me money). I’d recommend you sign up.  I signed up for about a dozen blogging fundraiser consultants, but have since canceled most.  She’s one of two left standing.  I like how she organizes her thoughts about fundraising, and her conversation planning techniques are very familiar to me from my work as a prosecutor.  I believe that she was a practicing attorney and who changed careers like I have, and my best guess is that she was a litigator as well. This is a very good article and there are several other blogs (her own) that she links to within it, so even though this is a small article you could spend some time here.
